Kalle Shirt & Shirtdress Pattern - Print Pattern
- FABRIC & SUPPLIES
With a loose, body-skimming silhouette and a number of interchangeable features, the Kalle Shirt & Shirtdress is the ultimate in chic, easy dressing.
View A is cropped with a wide-faced hem, View B is a tunic length shirt inspired by classic men's oxfords, and View C is a stylish shirtdress with a high-low hem. All versions feature a subtly curved yoke, short dolman sleeves with arm cuffs, and a dramatically shaped hem.
Personalize your Kalle with a standard or band collar, an optional breast pocket, an inverted or box pleat, and button, popover or hidden placket.
Kalle is also available as a PDF download.
Model notes: Our model is 5'-8" and is wearing a size 12.
Make a fluid, drapey Kalle with soft fabrics like tencel, linen, rayon challis and silk crepe de chine. Crisper fabrics like poplin, chambray, voile, flannel and traditional shirtings will create a more structured silhouette.

Very cute! Makes a good top for over leggings. I made mine in cotton voile and it's very light and flow-y.
Excellent pattern. Generous ease in this pattern which will be comfortable for summer and good for layering in winter. The sew along helps to clarify a few steps in the pattern. I was a little confused about the cuff. The burrito instructions for the yoke were perfect and I love the way the yoke and collar turned out. The directions for the button placket were good although I did manage to have my placket opening the "wrong" way. Made in a mid weight linen and used a cotton lawn for the inside yoke and collar stand. Also added inseam pockets using the contrast cotton print as well. Other modification was to raise the back hem. The bias binding hem is such a lovely finishing detail. I will definitely be making more Kalle's. For reference I didn't modify the length apart from raising the back hem and I am 5'. I might consider sizing down one size as the pleat in the back is very accommodating to curves.
What can I say. This pattern is so well drafted and so versatile. I’ve already made the cropped version and the shirt dress. I love them and am now making garments to go with them. Thank you.
I have made three Kalles thus far -- shirt, tunic, and dress -- ranging from size 8 to 12 based on the fabric and desired boxiness. I love that the pattern allows for that. Very modern and fashionable design. Looking forward to future patterns from CC!
This dress turned out well enough. It’s cute. The Centre panel, which gives the dress its character was a bit fiddly to make. I made my Charlie in a mid weight linen. Because of the gathering I’m the front, It may work best with a lighter weight fabric. I really love the deep pockets.
I love it, it’s great! I’m looking forward to making more Kalles.
