Kalle Shirt & Shirtdress Pattern - Print Pattern
- FABRIC & SUPPLIES
With a loose, body skimming silhouette and a number of interchangeable features, the Kalle Shirt & Shirtdress is the ultimate in chic, easy dressing.
View A is cropped with a wide faced hem, View B is a tunic length shirt inspired by classic men's oxfords, and View C is a stylish shirtdress with a high-low hem. All versions feature a subtly curved yoke, kimono sleeves with arm cuffs, and a dramatically shaped hem.
Personalize your Kalle with a standard or band collar, an optional breast pocket, an inverted or box pleat, and button, popover or hidden placket.
Kalle is available as an instant gratification PDF (with copyshop and print at home files), or as a beautifully printed pattern. See our guide to printing & assembling PDF files here. Both versions feature our meticulously written and easy to follow instructions, designed to give everyone beautiful results regardless of skill level.
Model notes: Our model is 5'-8" and is wearing a size 12.
Make a fluid, drapey Kalle with soft fabrics like tencel, linen, rayon challis and silk crepe de chine. Crisper fabrics like poplin, chambray, voile, flannel and traditional shirtings will create a more structured silhouette.

This dress turned out well enough. It’s cute. The Centre panel, which gives the dress its character was a bit fiddly to make. I made my Charlie in a mid weight linen. Because of the gathering I’m the front, It may work best with a lighter weight fabric. I really love the deep pockets.
I love it, it’s great! I’m looking forward to making more Kalles.
I debated getting this pattern for a while, and I’m so glad I finally did! It’s wonderfully drafted and the instructions are perfect!
I get asked where I bought this dress all the time when I wear it. I made it in a lawn and I love the body with this pattern.
I can't rate this pattern highly enough. Great instructions, so much detail & the accompanying online sewalong was a game changer. I'm using the burrito method on all the shirt patterns I use from now on! I've made two Kalle shirt dresses already & they've both made regular appearances as part of my summer wardrobe.
I love everyone's versions of this pattern. I appreciate seeing that it works on many different bodies.
